APEX Fighting Tournament 2013

At the time of this writing, the APEX 2013 Fighting Tournament has just ended. The winners basking in the limelight while their defeated opponents slink off to nurse their wounded pride. Personally I am not much of a fan of fighting games, but I do enjoy watching some of the more crazy fights between people.

However I am not here to talk about my game preferences. This year at APEX 2013, the people over at OCReMix were approached to made an album commemorating the event, taking one song from each of the 10 games and rearranging the track. I missed much of the stream this past weekend so I do not know if the songs from the album were featured during the tournament itself.

Now onto the album itself. There are 11 songs in total. One song from each game as well as a remix of the APEX 2013 theme itself. The album is quite good, especially for those adrenaline fueled moments where the difference between winning and losing is one button combo. Each track, from the slower paced SoulCalibur V, to the high paced, high energy Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom, perfectly reflects the game it is representing. None of the music here feels out of place, which in a theme album such as this, can happen from time to time.

For a quick album, it's quite solid. Exposing listeners to the music from Persona 4, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom and Tekken Tag is a great way to expand peoples musical horizons. As I said I am not familiar with the fighting games that aren't Super Smash Brothers so getting a chance to hear music from other series is a real treat.

An awesome bonus to this album is that it works also as a workout mix tape. Music from fighting games should be full of high energy and of course that music directly influences the gamer playing it. Using the music from this album could be beneficial for those doing a distance run or aerobics.

To the victors go the spoil and to the winners, congratulations. To the APEX Crew, congratulations of a great tourney this year and thanks for giving us a great show. Darkesword and crew did a fantastic job making this album in such a short amount of time. Hopefully this paves the way for more tournaments to work with music sites in the future. If you are interested in the album, you can pick it up off of the OCReMix site.
